Other Activities : National Youth Day :
The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh has taken the decision to celebrate National Youth Day on 1st November every year. The successful male and female trained youth who can show exemplary contribution on self-employment projects are rewarded with National Youth Awards on National Youth Day. Up to now the National Youth Award have been given to 219 successful male and female youth. This year 16 successful male and female youth will be given National Youth Awards as a mark of recognition to their outstanding contribution.
Club Enlistment and Grant-in-Aid :
The Department of Youth Development has been assigned with the responsibility of involving youth organizations in community development programs. For active participation of youth organizations in the development process the Department of Youth Development has taken steps for enlistment of youth organizations. Until now 6788 youth organizations have already been enlisted with the Department of Youth Development. To encourage club based activities Government has created a welfare fund in the name of "Youth Welfare Fund" and since its inception and until March, 2007 an amount of Tk. 406.31 lakh has been sanctioned against 3861 youth organizations as grant from this fund.
Relations with other International Agencies :
UNDP, UNEPA, ESCAP, ILO, UNESCO, JAICA and KOICA are extending their cooperation in implementing the programs of the Department of Youth Development, Ministry of Youth & Sports. At present 04 volunteers of JAICA and 09 volunteers of KOICA are working in the Department of Youth Development.
Commonwealth Youth Program :
The Department of Youth Development organizes Distance Training Courses, Workshops, Seminars, youth exchange program in collaboration with Commonwealth Youth Program, Asia Centre. Until now a total number of 187 officers & youth leaders have so far obtained Diploma in "Youth Work and Development" from CYP, Asia Centre. Moreover, a Diploma course in "Youth and Development" is being conducted jointly by Bangladesh Open University and the Department of Youth Development under the distance training course of Commonwealth Youth Program, Asia center. So far 90 participants obtained Diploma in the 1st and 2nd cycle. The 3rd cycle is running.
Khas Ponds & Tanks Lease for Youth Employment :
To involve more youth in income generating activities the Government has given the authority lease out khas ponds to the Department of Youth Development. With this authority the Department of Youth Development can lease out up to the size of 20 acores of khas ponds and tanks to the youth co-operative societies enlisted with the Department of Youth Development.Up to March,2007 a total number of 12,038 ponds and tanks has been leased out amongst the registered youth co-operative societies all over Bangladesh and an amount of Tk. 29 crore 49 lakh and 27 thousand has been collected and deposited in the Government treasury.
Commonwealth Award :
9 youth organizers and one self-employed have received Commonwealth Youth Award from Bangladesh for their outstanding contribution in self-employment and social service since the introduction of Commonwealth Youth Award by the Commonwealth Youth Program, Asia Center.
SAARC Youth Award :
SAARC Youth Award scheme was introduced in 1997 and since then 02 (two) successful youth organizers have received "SAARC Youth Award" for their exemplary contribution in social work.
